Samsung has rolled out the One UI 8 Watch update, introducing a new set of battery management options designed to prolong smartwatch battery life. The software was launched with the Galaxy Watch 8 lineup, which includes the Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025).

A key addition in this update is the "Battery Protection" feature. When enabled, the watch limits charging to 90 percent. If the charge drops to 85 percent, it resumes only up to the 90 percent cap. This charging cycle is intended to reduce battery degradation over time.

Users can activate Battery Protection directly from their smartwatch by going to Settings > Battery and switching on the feature. Alternatively, the same option is accessible through the Galaxy Wearable app under Watch Settings > Battery.

Another function introduced with the update is "Auto Power On." With this enabled, a Galaxy Watch that has fully powered off will automatically switch on when connected to a charger. This removes the need for a manual restart after battery depletion.

As of now, One UI 8 Watch is only available on the Galaxy Watch 8 series. Samsung has confirmed that the software will roll out to previous models, including the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Classic, though no specific timeline has been provided.
